On 16 August 2006, in the presence of the Chairman of the Executive Commitee, Mr. José Honório, the Portucel Soporcel Group signed two agreements for cooperation with CAP- Confederação dos Agricultores de Portugal (Confederation of Portuguese Farmers) and Forestis – Associação Florestal de Portugal (Portuguese Forestry Association) with the aim of strengthening the forestry sector, promoting certification and combining efforts with a view to protecting the Portuguese forests.

The agreements are also aimed at making joint efforts with a view to improving the good performance of the national forests and seeking practical solutions to decisive issues facing the sector, such as combating forest fires, encouraging certification, and promoting biodiversity.

On the occasion of the signing, Mr. Honório emphasised that “these agreements are the result of the joint understanding of the strategic importance of the eucalyptus production for the national economy”.
