Solidarity at Christmas in the Portucel Soporcel group
23-12-2008

Under its policy of social responsibility, since 2001 the Portucel Soporcel group has made a donation intended for Christmas presents to social and humanitarian institutions which operate in the regions where its mills are located. The selection of the institutions contemplated each year depends on the Group’s knowledge of the work they perform in favour of the needy. This knowledge comes both from visits by the Group’s in-house teams to the institutions and through information obtained from teh Town Halls (Setúbal, Aveiro and Figueira da Foz) and from the Parish Councils.

With this we want to strengthen our ties with the community through support for institutions of social solidarity which help the needy in various areas. Aid for children is one of the areas to which we dedicate particular attention, ranging from institutions which provide complementary services in the educational system (e.g. spare time activities) to institutions which are for children with learning difficulties, orphans or children abandoned by their families, and the disabled, amongst others.
The specific needs of the elderly and of young people suffering from social exclusion are also areas which the Portucel Soporcel group has been supporting.

Recognising the value and importance of the work, which is very often voluntary, performed by the people who are part of the social institutions, the Portucel Soporcel Group therefore seeks to help to improve the lives of those who are most in need.
